Dimitrios Th. Vachaviolos was born in Mystras. He studied archaeology at the University of Ioannina (1999-2003), where he also carried out postgraduate studies specializing in Byzantine Archaeology (2003-2006). He received his PhD on ecclesiastical history of byzantine Southeast Peloponnese form the University of Ioannina under the supervision of Professor Michael Kordosis (2008-2014).
He has served as a teacher in Secondary Education (2008-2022) and has taught byzantine history and culture courses at the joint MA program “Byzantine World: Its Relationship with Antiquity and Modern Hellenism" of the Department of Philology of the Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies of the University Peloponnese in collaboration with the Byzantine Culture Research Institute (2018-2021). From August 2022, he serves as a laboratory teaching staff member in scientific field: "Byzantine History and Culture" at the Department of History, Archaeology and Cultural Management of the University of the Peloponnese.
He has participated with announcements in local and international conferences, while his papers have been published in Greek and international scientific journals.
